Sarah Palin has said that she finds Simon Cowell inspirational for telling the truth to his reality show contestants.
In her new book America by Heart: Reflections on Family, Faith, and Flag, the former governor of Alaska says that Cowell is "almost alone in his willingness to tell hard truths" on American Idol.
One of the book's extracts, published on Gawker, reads: "No-one [the contestants] have encountered in their lives - from their parents to their teachers to their President - wanted them to feel bad by hearing the truth. So they grew up convinced that they could become big popstars like Michael Jackson."
Palin - whose 20-year-old daughter Bristol is currently competing on Dancing With The Stars - goes on to say: "Cowell can be a little harsh at times, but he upholds the highest standards, and something in us recognises and responds to that."
