WWE sent several DMCA notices to Google this week shutting down blogs on
Google’s Blogspot.com service that were planning to stream the Survivor
Series pay-per-view illegally. DMCA – which stands for Digital Millennium
Copyright Act – notices are issued when a copyright owner feels that their
intellectual property are being illegally distributed online. In this case,
the WWE Internet police painstakingly had to list all the websites one by
one that they wanted shut down and for the month of November they have sent
cease and desist letters to Google for almost twenty blogs. Google obviously
complied with WWE’s request and all pages were taken offline.

There are two sides here,

WWE will like say that the web streams are costing them buyrates and in turn a chucnk of their main revenue source.

The other and in fairness more likely one in the majority is that most of those who watch PPVs online aren't going to buy the PPV regardless for whatever reason. If they don't see it at all consequently they're gonna lose touch and not bother watching Raw/Smackdown so the viewership will drop as will merch sales etc etc.

Any number of reasons why a few won't buy a PPV, whether it be price or like myself, not having the means to do so.

The compromise would be if WWE only tries to block the live streams and leaves well alone the streams that are available after the show has aired.
