According to Now magazine it seems the 27-year-old singer has been cast aside in favour of former Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger and diva Mariah Carey.
Cowell also recently revealed that he'd had a conversation with "one of the most well-known male singers in the world" about appearing on the panel.
A source said: "Simon needs huge names to be judges on the show as he's keen for it to be just as successful in the US as it is in the UK."
Reports claim that the male singer in question is Justin Bieber.
