Rockers Nickelback were among the honourees at a songwriters awards ceremony in Toronto, Canada on Monday night (22Nov10).
The band was recognised at the annual Society of Composers Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN) gala for their track Gotta Be Somebody, which earned them the International Song Award trophy.
Sarah McLachlan also received a prize to mark nine of her songs reaching 100,000 plays on domestic radio in Canada.
Grammy-award winner Galt MacDermot, who composed the music for hit stage show Hair, received a lifetime achievement award.
