What What? (It's a Lawsuit).

South Park producers are being sued, as the series is accused of ripping off a copyrighted music video. Remember What What (In the Butt)?" The viral video was parodied on South Park in the 2008 episode "Canada On Strike!" and The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the producers behind the video, Brownmark Films, have now sued Viacom and Comedy Central over it.

No doubt this lawsuit will come down to an argument over whether the South Park segment, which featured Butters singing the "What What (in the Butt)?" song, with some obvious nods to the video, will be protected as parody or seen as copyright infringement.

The Reporter says Brownmark, who obviously are referring to it as infringement, are calling the South Park version, "willful, intentional, and purposeful, in disregard of and indifferent to the rights of Brownmark." The Reporter also notes that Brownmark are seeking a permanent injunction and maximum statutory damages.

This lawsuit comes on the heels of an incident last month where South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker apologized for using jokes from a CollegeHumor video in their Inception parody episode.
