Russell Watson has told Sky News how life-saving surgery has opened up his voice to "a whole new world".

The tenor, who is back to good health after beating two brain tumours, says it has affected the pitch of his voice.

"Remarkably a lot of the tumour was growing into my nasal passage as well as my brain.

"So when it was removed, it opened up a whole new world for me."

The Classical Brit award winner, who has released a new album La Voce, says people are surprised by the vocal changes.

"My voice is now thicker and richer - and it has a warmer sound to it."

Watson adds that since his illness, his passion for singing has grown even more.

"It's such a joy now for what I do - it's a joy to breathe air and singing and being alive."
