Valerie Harper has reportedly signed up for a role in Desperate Housewives.
According to TV Guide, the actress will play Susan's aunt Claire in the ABC series.
She will reportedly come to visit Susan (Teri Hatcher) when she is admitted to hospital after being injured in a neighbourhood riot.
Harper, who is best known for her appearances in Mary Tyler Moore and Rhoda, is expected to make her Housewives debut in the second new episode of 2011.
Desperate Housewives continues on Sundays at 9/8c on ABC.
