Kym Marsh has claimed that she is not surprised by news that Simon Cowell has signed the four X Factor finalists.
Reports suggested that Cowell offered contracts to One Direction, Rebecca Ferguson and Cher Lloyd when they failed to beat the show's eventual winner Matt Cardle. Writing in her New magazine column, Marsh admitted that she was "gutted" One Direction did not triumph - despite being "certain" that they would.
"I'm not surprised Simon Cowell signed them and fellow contestants Rebecca Ferguson and Cher Lloyd, despite the fact they didn't win," she wrote. "He's seeing pound signs flashing before his eyes!"
She continued: "Some people have questioned the importance of winning the show, but Matt Cardle will always have the advantage. His single and album will always be released first and he probably has a better deal than the others."
However, she added: "Finding four new British recording artists can only be a good thing."
