US financier Roy Neuberger, one of the world's leading modern art collectors and patrons, has died at the age of 107.
Mr Neuberger died on Friday at his home in Manhattan, a spokesman said.
The financier acquired hundreds of paintings by the likes of Willem de Kooning, Jackson Pollock, Edward Hopper and Georgia O'Keeffe.
Many were housed at the Neuberger Museum of Art in New York but many were donated to other museums.
As many as 70 institutions in 24 states, including New York's Museum of Modern Art and Metropolitan Museum of Art, house Neuberger purchases.
In 2007, President George W Bush presented him with a National Medal of Arts.
Dedicated New Yorker
Orphaned at 12, Mr Neuberger inherited some money from his father.
He anticipated the 1929 Wall St Crash and survived it with manageable losses.
Mr Neuberger began buying art in the 1930s and reportedly never sold a painting by a living artist.
He was said to have been inspired while spending time on Paris's Left Bank in his early 20s to help poor living artists.
In 1974, the Neuberger Museum of Art opened in Purchase, New York, built after an offer from New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller and with a donation of 108 Neuberger-owned works.
Mr Neuberger was a dedicated New Yorker, living in the city for a century.
