Nintendo Wants to Avoid 3DS Software "Pause"
President Satoru Iwata says lulls in DS and Wii software resulted in a break in sales momentum.

A failure to provide a steady stream of releases for the Wii and DS caused a break in sales momentum for both following their respective launches, and it's something Nintendo is planning to avoid from having happen again with the 3DS, according to president Satoru Iwata.

Speaking to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun newspaper (via Andriasang) during the Nintendo World event in Japan over the weekend, Iwata explained their intention to provide a consistent release schedule after the 3DS launches. "It's important that you be able to supply software with no pause," he said. "With the DS and Wii, following the titles that were released at launch, the momentum dropped when there was a gap in software releases. We're making plans so that this type of thing won't happen [with the 3DS]."

Nintendo also revealed over the weekend eight games that'll be available for the Japanese 3DS launch on February 26. They had sixteen games on display during the event, though, so we know there's at least eight more 3DS games far along in development and waiting in the wings.
