James Franco has revealed that he will play a serial killer in the film The Night Stalker.
According to the New York Post, Franco, who will also direct the movie, will play Richard Ramirez, a rapist and murderer in the mid-'80s.
The film will be adapted from Philip Carlo's book of the same title. Nicholas Constantine, one of the screenwriters on the project, spoke to the paper about Franco's involvement.
"I had no idea if he would do it, though, since it's pretty dark subject matter," said Constantine. "They told me he was studying to be a director and this was perfect for him."
He continued: "We watched three short films he made, two of which were dark and one of which was about a serial killer. That confirmed James definitely had this dark side, and it definitely sealed the deal for us. Sure enough, James read the material and responded to it immediately."
