Nicole Kidman has insisted that her marriage to ex-husband Tom Cruise was "filled with love".
The pair were married for more than a decade, before divorcing in 2001.
Speaking to Marie Claire, the Australian actress said that she still considers the relationship a success even though it eventually ended.
"As a couple we were very private," she said. "We were not out a lot and we were very, very tight and that's why we lasted ten years, which is a good amount of time, particularly when you get married at 23."
Kidman also explained that her marriage to the Top Gun star taught her a great deal about the importance of love.
She added: "I was never seeking to be a celebrity. But I was prepared to do that for love. And that is something that is hard to do. It's hard when you're young.
"But I'm ready to give up anything for love because, ultimately, that is what you have. You get so much from a relationship when it is filled with love."
The couple are parents to children Isabella Jane and Connor.
Cruise went on to wed Katie Holmes, while Kidman tied the knot with country star Keith Urban in 2006.
