!BANG! TV Report - Dory Funk Jr. - A Football Story

Superbowl Sunday is only 2 days away.

November of 1974, Terry and I were coming to Florida to face the Brisco Brothers, Jack and Jerry. We were working Monday, Orlando, Tuesday Tampa, Wednesday Miami, Thursday Jacksonville and Friday Tallahassee and taking Saturday off as the West Texas University Buffaloes were in Tampa on Saturday to play the Tampa University Spartans. Playing quarterback for West Texas was Tully Blanchard, the son of a very famous professional wrestler and friend of our family, Joe Blanchard.

Terry and I being former West Texas University Football Players, did interviews on television letting everyone in the State of Florida, know that "The West Texas State Buffaloes Were Coming."

Tully's Father, Joe Blanchard, Terry and myself were in the stands cheering for Tully and the underdog West Texas University Buffaloes. Quarterback for Tampa University was All American Freddie Solomon who scared me to death every time he touched the ball.

The key play to the game was a pass from Tully Blanchard to one of the "Fastest men in America," Tracey Dickson. Tully dropped back and threw the ball as far as he could Dickson ran underneath it for the touchdown that put West Texas ahead and on their way to a 24 to 6 win over a very good Tampa University football team for the "Icing on the Cake" to complete a West Texas Buffaloes Stampede through the Florida Territory.

Tully Blanchard will appear on !BANG! TV Saturday February 26th 2011 at the !BANG! TV Sound Stage.
