Manchester City defender Kolo Toure has been suspended after failing a drug test, it has emerged.
The Football Association informed the Ivory Coast international that an 'A' sample he had provided had been found to contain a banned substance.
A statement released by the club said: "Manchester City confirm that the FA has informed Kolo Toure that an 'A-sample' provided by him has tested positive for a specified substance.
"As result of this, he has been suspended from participating in all first team and non-first team matches, pending the outcome of the legal process.
"There will be no further comment from the football club at this stage."
The 29-year-old has been a regular first team player and was previously captain at the club he joined from Arsenal in a four-year, £14m deal in 2009.
His brother, Yaya, also plays for City.
Those found guilty of taking banned substances can receive anything from a two-year ban from the sport to a warning, under World Anti Doping Agency rules.
