As promised earlier by his wife Siliana, TMZ.com has posted a story covering the arrest of Shad Gaspard. Gaspard's wife stated that her husband was a victim of racial profiling by the Columbus, OH police, who arrested him for jaywalking as Shad was on his way to the Arnold Fitness Expo. She said he got down on his knees to be arrested, which is a submissive position, and the police still shoved his face in the dirt.

Former UFC champ Josh Barnett, who was with Gaspard at the time, posting the following on his Twitter page, backing up the claims: "Shad Gaspard arrested because a Columbus officer abuses his authority. False jaywalking charge + attitude turns to handcuffs and tackling."

The Columbus PD, who didn't return calls to TMZ, said Gaspard was arrested for resisting arrest and obstructing official business.

WBNS Channel 10 in Columbus, Ohio featured a piece on Shad Gaspard's arrest over the weekend at this link, complete with Gaspard walking a reporter through the incident and showing him how he was treated.

Gaspard's side of the story is that he attempted to tell a police officer about a car that struck a teenager and the officer, intimidated by his size, overreacted.

The authorities again intimated that Gaspard refused to listen to requests not to walk in the street and was belligerent.

Gaspard is considering filing a complaint against the officers in question.

Earlier today, video footage was posted online of police officers arresting former WWE star Shad Gaspard over the weekend for an incident that started off as a jaywalking offense and quickly turned into Shad allegedly resisting arrest.

TMZ.com has released Shad Gaspard's mugshot picture, http://ll-media.tmz.com/2011/03/07/0307-shad-mugshot-credit.jpg

Sgt. Rich Weiner, a rep for the Columbus PD, tells TMZ the police report says Gaspard was observed by an officer walking in the roadway and obstructing traffic. He says Gaspard ignored an officer's request to get out of the street and refused to provide the officer with ID when asked several times.

Sgt. Weiner says, according to the report, the officer then tried to arrest Gaspard, but he "broke free from the officers as they attempted to take him into custody."

Sgt. Weiner says the video of Shad on the ground being man handled by several police officers does not show the events which led to him "being put on the ground and being placed in handcuffs."

TMZ.com featured the other side of the Shad Gaspard story this evening with comments from the Columbus, Ohio police department.

Their version of events is that the former WWE star was walking in the street and obstructing traffic. When he refused to show identification and "ignored" a request not to walk in the street, an officer attempted to take him into custody. Gaspard broke free, which is why the additional police were called.

As previously noted, Gaspard has claimed he did nothing wrong. MMA fighter Josh Barnett, who was with Gaspard, claimed on his Twitter that Gaspard was arrested for jaywalking after the police made a big deal about nothing. Gaspard's wife has since claimed racial profiling
