Score Fighting Series 7 results: Mein quickly stops Petz, Ronson batters Healy
by Dann Stupp on Nov 24, 2012 at 12:45 am ET

Strikeforce took a gamble by loaning out Jordan Mein, one of its top welterweight prospects, for Friday's Score Fighting Series 7 headliner.

Against UFC vet Forrest Petz, he faced a heavy-handed fighter with proven knockout power.

Yet, quickly in the main-event fight, it looked like anything but a risky proposition.

Mein made short work Petz and battered him with punches, elbows and knees from close quarters for a quick and efficient first-round TKO victory. The bout headlined SFS 7 and took place at Hamilton Place Theatre in Ontario, Canada. The main card aired live on AXS TV.

Although Petz opened up early, Mein quickly pounced with countershots and put him on the defensive with accurate strikes. The stoppage, which primarily was the result of standing elbow strikes, came at the 1:29 mark of the opening round.

"I had to respect his power ... but once I landed a few elbows, I felt good," said Mein, who isn't sure if he has an immediate future in the rumored-to-be-closing Strikeforce promotion. "I'm excited and happy."

Mein (26-8) is now 8-1 over his past nine fights, and the lone defeat came via close split decision to Tyron Woodley. Petz (25-10), meanwhile, snaps a four-fight win streak.

Ronson batters vet Healy

The only thing missing from Jesse Ronson's impressive resume as a signature win or two. In the night's co-headliner, he got one in impressive fashion over big-show vet Ryan Healy.

Ronson struck early with accurate punches to the head and body. He also dodged takedowns and proved especially effective with counter punches, and even when Healy got the fight to the mat, Ronson easily worked his way back to his feet to unload more blows.

The dominance continued in the second round as Ronson landed cleanly with punches and kicks to the head and ribs. Sapped by the mounting blows, Healy couldn't fully complete his takedown attempts, and Ronson continually forced him to return to his feet for more punishment.

Healy showed resiliency, no doubt, but he was a bloodied and bruised mess by the time the third round rolled around. A fresh and light-footed Ronson continued the one-sided beatdown, though Healy never relented and forced the fight to the judges' scorecards despite eating a trio of late-fight head kicks. They ultimately scored it for Ronson via lopsided 30-26, 30-25 and 30-27 scores.

"All I want for Christmas is that UFC contract, but who knows what's going to happen?" Ronson said. "Hopefully someone liked that fight."

Ronson (12-2) has now won seven consecutive fights and likely will get some attention from the major promotions, including the UFC. Healy (23-12-1), meanwhile, spoils a recent 3-1 run that included an April win over UFC vet Paul Kelly.

Johnson, Ricci pick up decision wins

In a rematch of a fight from SFS's debut show, Tristan Johnson (8-3) proved his first win was no fluke and handed Bellator vet Will Romero (9-4) a split-decision loss. Johnson, who won their first meeting via unanimous decision, scored a first-round knockdown in the largely standup rematch and edged Romero in the grueling bout to take the victory via 28-29, 30-27 and 30-27 scores.

In a lightweight bout, Alex Ricci (6-1) settled for his first unanimous-decision victory after topping Kevin Morin (6-5) via 29-28 scores across the board. Ricci, who delivered a series of stinging elbows, other scored knockouts in all his previous wins.

In a clash of Canadian lightweight prospects, Jason Saggo (8-1) dominated the action on the mat after scoring takedowns, continually worked from his opponent's back, and ultimately tapped out Iraj Hadin (6-5) via second-round rear-naked choke. Saggo now has seven submissions in eight career wins.

In the night's first televised bout, Ryan Dickson (5-0) dominated the first round and then tapped out fellow Canadian welterweight prospect Brandt Dewsbery (10-2-1) with a second-round rear-naked choke. The victory, which was Dickson's fifth via stoppage, ended Dewsbery's five-fight win streak.
