Eddie Mendez's UFC debut will have to wait a bit longer.

The undefeated middleweight prospect today announced a shoulder injury has forced him out of next week's UFC on FX 6 event. His original opponent, Nick Penner (11-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC), now meets promotional newcomer Cody Donovan (7-2 MMA, 0-0 BFC).

UFC on FX 6 takes place Dec. 15 at Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Broadbeach, Gold Coast, Australia. The event's main card airs live on FX (on Dec. 14 in the U.S. due to the time difference) following prelims on FUEL TV and Facebook.

Mendez vs. Donovan is expected to be part of the prelims.

The Colorado-based Donovan is riding a three-fight win streak with four victories in his past five fights. One of the wins came over Brian Albin at Bellator 38. Donovan, who owns three knockouts and three submissions in seven career wins, most recently submitted Peter Nolan at Instinct MMA 4 in June.

Penner, meanwhile, is a veteran of the Canadian fight circuit who signed with the UFC earlier this year after winning eight straight fights, six via stoppage. However, in his promotional debut, he suffered a first-round TKO loss to Anthony Perosh at UFC on FX 2. He then was slated to fight Tom DeBlass at UFC on FUEL TV 4 but ultimately scratched from the July card with an undisclosed injury.
