The end of the world is imminent, Australian prime minister Julia Gillard has announced.
Flesh-eating zombies and demonic hell beasts could be unleashed on Doomsday, the Labor politician has predicted in a video message addressing her nation.
However anyone worried about a pre-Christmas apocalypse needn’t lose too much sleep, as the message was recorded as part of a campaign promoting a youth radio station’s breakfast show.
‘My dear remaining fellow Australians, the end of the world is coming,’ she warns in the 50-second spoof clip. ‘It turns out that the Mayan calendar is true.’
Surrounded by Australian flags, the Welsh-born PM delivered the shocking announcement in her usual straight-faced manner.
‘Whether the final blow comes from flesh-eating zombies, demonic hell-beasts or from the total triumph of K-Pop, if you know one thing about me it is this – I will always fight for you to the very end,’ she declares.
The clip has already racked up over 250,000 views on video-sharing website YouTube in less than 24 hours.
A spokesman for Ms Gillard said the video for radio station Triple J, was ‘just bit of fun’.
‘It’s just a bit of humour for the end of the year. Nothing else,’ he added.
The spoof comes after two Australian radio presenters were given updates about the Duchess of Cambridge’s condition from the London hospital where she was being treated for acute morning sickness by pretending to be the Queen and the Princes of Wales in an amateurish prank call.
