Jack Nicholson was hospitalised overnight with a mystery illness, it was claimed today.
The 69-year-old Shining star reportedly checked into LA's Cedars Sinai Hospital after problems with his salivary glands.
A friend of the actor told TV show Access Hollywood he had been hospitalised because "his salivary glands were acting up".
But he was released and sent home. The exact nature of his illness is unknown and his agent Sandy Bresler said she did not comment on her client's personal life.
The Hollywood legend is understood to have had problems with his salivary glands when he was a young man, but in recent years he has enjoyed a clean bill of health.
His new movie The Departed is being released later this year and he is due to begin work on his next film, The Bucket List, alongside Morgan Freeman, next month.
The Oscar winners will play two men who break out of a ward for terminal cancer patients and embark on a road trip, ticking things off on their to-do list before they 'kick the bucket'.
Filmmaker Rob Reiner signed on to direct the movie after reading the script and immediately sent it to Freeman.
The actor supposedly loved the idea and suggested Nicholson would be his perfect partner in crime.
