Blizzard has reportedly confirmed that the upcoming PlayStation 3 version of Diablo 3 (which is also due on PlayStation 4) will not include an online auction house, the controversial item trading service that fundamentally altered the loot-hunting experience for many PC gamers. Offline single-player capability will also be on offer in the console version of the game.

In a statement offered to Polygon, a Blizzard rep instead described a feature that sounds much more like the basic (and generally more preferred) item trading system of Diablo 2.

"Players can trade (whether offline or online) using an in-game menu," a spokesperson told Polygon. "They just need to be playing in the same game. We should have more details soon."

As a result of the switch to console gamepad from keyboard to mouse, there will be a number of other fundamental gameplay changes as well. The way in which enemies attack and behave has been altered to compensate for the player character now being directly controlled by the analogue stick, and the user-interface has been overhauled with shortcuts and radial menus.

Watch the trailer below for a look at the console game in action.
