After the quite successful episodic adaptation of Robert Kirkman's The Walking Dead by Telltale Games, it was no wonder that Activision wanted to jump on board and try their luck at hitting the zombie jackpot. Sadly for them, the choice of going the first-person shooter path may not have been the best idea, especially with what came out of it.
The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct takes a leaf out of AMC's The Walking Dead TV Show, following the two Dixon brothers on a haunting, unforgiving quest to make their way to the supposed safety of Atlanta.. While the game definitely struggles in a majority of the gaming departments, we got Dylan Burns to have a wack at the zombie piñata to see just what type of brain-filled matter would fall out.
As a result, it’s simply not worth exploring, even if you own shrink-wrapped copies of every TV season plus a signed, framed first edition of the graphic novel. AMC should never have signed off on this. Even Activision seems embarrassed to be pushing it out – we had to buy our own copy to review. The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct will bury itself dutifully to the bottom of bargain bins very shortly. Avoid even then.
