The Charlotte Observer published a very detailed report on Reid Fliehr's final days after returning from Japan, where he was planning to return to in April.

Notable in the report is that Reid, who is believed to have died of an overdose last Friday, feared returning to the addiction traps that were set in Charlotte, according to family members interviewed for the story. "His worst fear was coming home," said Reid's mother, Beth Fliehr.

The report also notes that the Charlotte hotel room where Reid was found dead on Friday morning, March 29 was the second bedroom of a suite rented by his father, Ric Flair. Ric had made temporary living arrangements while in-between moves, then both Ric and Reid, 25, were scheduled to travel to Maryland that Friday morning for a Big Time Wrestling show.

Timeline & Details

-- January 2013: Reid Flair traveled to Japan to take part in a two-month wrestling camp with All Japan Pro Wrestling. “He was doing so great in Japan,” Reid’s mother, Beth Fliehr, said. “His mind was so clear. He was healthy. Everybody loved Reid over there. For the first time, he was just Reid - not Ric Flair’s son.”

Reid’s girlfriend, Whitney Burton, traveled to Japan for the final two weeks of Reid's camp. Whitney said that Reid was "happy, healthy, and motivated." She added that Reid "loved the country and didn’t want to leave. He was also worried about returning to Charlotte and old temptations.

-- Sunday, March 24: Reid Flair returned to Charlotte, where Whitney had tried to protect Reid from people or situations that got him into trouble in the past that came to light when he was arrested for drug possession and other offenses.

-- Upon returning home, Reid arranged to live with his mother, who reports that Reid was "fearful about coming home." Beth added, "If you know anything about addiction, the worst thing you can do is come home. The drug (rehabilitation) people described it to me. There are heavy triggers to bad habits at home. Anything, anybody, can set them off.”

-- Monday, Mar. 25: Reid ate with his family, then went to a local wrestling ring to work out and demonstrate the tips and tricks he learned in Japan.

-- Tuesday, Mar. 26: Reid worked out at the gym, then went to Walmart with Beth to buy "lots of food" so that he could be in the "best shape he could be in" prior to his scheduled return to Japan in April.

-- Wednesday, Mar. 27: Ric Flair picked up Reid around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning. Reid told Beth that he was going to spend some time with Ric and would be back that afternoon. However, Reid never returned to the house, according to Beth.

Instead, Reid worked out, then joined his father at the Residence Inn Suite in the SouthPark upscale district in Charlotte.

-- Thursday, Mar. 28: Reid and Ric Flair ate dinner Del Frisco’s restaurant near the hotel. According to Flair's talent agent, Melinda Morris Zanoni, both Reid and Ric stayed the night in the two-bedroom hotel suite rented by Ric.

-- Friday morning, Mar. 29: Ric Flair found his son unconscious and unresponsive around 10:30 in the morning. Medics responding to the scene pronounced Reid dead, and police reported "drugs" as the initial cause of "incapacitation." The medical examiner's final findings will confirm the official cause of death.

-- Wednesday, Apr. 3: Flair spoke at Reid's funeral held at a local Charlotte church. Ric wondered if he pushed his children too hard, exposed them too much to his partying lifestyle, or allowed them to get off too easily from their run-ins with the law. But, Ric said, he was trying to be comforted by knowing that the pain Reid experienced from battling addiction during his teenage and adult years was over.

“I can honestly say I blamed myself the first couple days, but after talking with people I think he’s in a better place and he’s at peace,” Flair said. “Because this had gone on a long time - and something happened that we didn’t have control over. But he’s a wonderful guy. I was so proud of him.”
