UFC is back on FOX with a lightweight championship main event. Before that, there's an additional three bouts on the main card.
The first two fights air on Facebook at 4 p.m. ET. The remainder of the preliminary card airs on FX, starting at 5 p.m. ET. The main card starts at 8 p.m. ET on the FOX channel.
UFC on FOX 7 comes from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA tomorrow, April 20. FightLine will be there with the play-by-play and news that follows.
Below is a breakdown of the main card fights.
Welterweight: Matt Brown vs. Jordan Mein
The main card opens with the only welterweight bout of the evening. Matt Brown survived a UFC release following three straight losses in 2010. He now holds four consecutive wins. All of those fights were in 2012 and three ended by TKO. Jordan Mein went 2-1 for Strikeforce before entering the Octagon in March, finishing veteran Dan Miller in the first round.
Lightweight: Nate Diaz vs. Josh Thomson
Since returning to lightweight, Nate Diaz is 3-1 with submissions over Takanori Gomi and Jim Miller. In December, he lost a decision championship fight to Benson Henderson. He has expressed interest in returning to welterweight following the Josh Thomson bout. Thomson returns to the UFC for the first time since 2004. He is 9-2 out of Strikeforce and was their lightweight champion for a short period.
Heavyweight: Daniel Cormier vs. Frank Mir
Olympic wrestler Daniel Cormier was one of the few heavyweights that remained with Strikeforce until the end. He's undefeated with 11 wins and was the heavyweight grand prix champion. During that time, Cormier defeated Antonio "Big Foot" Silva and Josh Barnett. Frank Mir comes in off a loss to then UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos. The former UFC champion needed three wins to gain that title shot. They were originally set for Strikeforce's November card, before it was scratched when Mir went down with an injury.
Lightweight: Benson Henderson vs. Gilbert Melendez
Benson Henderson had a fantastic 2012, defeating Frankie Edgar for the lightweight championship and subsequent rematch. He closed out the year by taking his sixth straight decision since coming in from the WEC. Gilbert Melendez is a two time Strikeforce champion and was the final person to hold that belt. He had a record six title defenses. Melendez is making his UFC debut and rides seven wins.
