Rights to comedy about a high-school counselor will be on sale at festival market

Seann William Scott will star in the comedy "Guidance" for Myriad Pictures and Depth of Field, the companies announced Wednesday.

Myriad has acquired worldwide distribution rights, and will be selling the film in Cannes this week. It's a reunion for Myriad and Scott, who starred in Myriad's hockey comedy "Goon" last year.

"Guidance" will be produced by Depth of Field's Chris and Paul Weitz and Andrew Miano (the team behind the "American Pie" franchise) and Tom Butterfield of Culmination Productions.

Written by Matteson Perry ("Cops & Robots") and directed by Ira Rosensweig ("Think Tank"), the film tells the story of a down-on-his-luck high school counselor who begins to alter transcripts to help a student that reminds him of himself. Guidance will also star Leslie Bibb, as the new teacher who is the object of Scott's affection,

Ira Rosensweig and Pavlina Hatoupis will also serve as producers. Myriad's Kirk D'Amico will serve as an executive producer on the film. Depth of Field's Dan Balgoyen will co-produce. Rachel Tenner is on board to cast the remaining roles.

The project was brought to Myriad by Mark Padilla, vice-president sales and distribution. Myriad's chief financial officer Kevin Forester and sr. vice-president of legal and business affairs David Ducar negotiated worldwide sales rights to the film for Myriad Pictures, with Andrew Miano of Depth of Field.

"We are thrilled to be working with Depth of Field on this very funny and heartfelt commercial comedy, and Seann is perfect for the role," said Myriad's Padilla,."Whether he is playing Stifler from the 'American Pie' films, or a hockey enforcer in 'Goon,' he makes these characters endearing to audiences worldwide. We couldn't be more pleased to have him aboard."

Depth of Field's Miano added that "We love the way the pieces have fallen into place on this project. Adding Myriad to the mix has strengthened the package and we are excited for them to get down to business at Cannes."
