CBS has aired the Tony Awards since 1978 and just inked a deal to keep these top theater awards till 2018. While the ratings for this kudocast pale next to those of the other major showbiz awards, among those six million or so tuning in are the most sought after demographics by advertisers.

This five-year renewal follows a three-year contract. Prior to that the Tiffany net had been re-upping on an annual basis.
In making the announcement, CBS exec vp Jack Sussman said, "The Tony Awards give viewers across the country the opportunity to experience the excitement of Broadway theater from their very own living rooms. We're pleased to renew our commitment to the performing arts and look forward to continuing this great and long-standing partnership by bringing the best of Broadway to primetime television for many years to come."

The 67th annual Tony Awards air live from Radio City Music Hall on June 9 and will be hosted for the third year running by Neil Patrick Harris. He stars in the CBS Monday night staple "How I Met Your Mother," which returns for a ninth and final season in the fall.
