A new Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 map pack is almost here and with it comes a new trailer featuring The Replacers. The Replacers, for those that might not remember, are a group of suited individuals (led by Peter Stormare) who step in for players while they’re enjoying some quality time with Black Ops 2‘s multiplayer.

In this particular trailer, there is a little bit of infighting within The Replacers organization over driving privileges. Comedian J.B. Smoove feels that with the Vengeance DLC almost out, he should get another shot at driving, but Stormare disagrees.

After that, the trailer gets down to business with action shots of the Vengeance DLC’s four new multiplayer maps (Cove, Detour, Rush, and Uplink and new Zombies map (Buried). You can read more about the maps and watch a detailed trailer here.

Vengeance, like the past two DLC packs – Uprising and Revolution – doesn’t reinvent the wheel, it’s a very straightforward selection of maps. The pack does feature the Ray Gun Mk. II – an homage to Treyarch‘s fan-favorite zombies weapon – and a reskinned version of the Black Ops map Summit. But most gamers have already decided whether they will pick the pack up or not.

Even Buried, the new Zombies map, isn’t as unique as the Mob of the Dead campaign from the Revolution DLC. It’s hard to top a Zombies map that features ’20s era gangsters fighting the undead in Alcatraz anyway.

In a way it almost feels like, after Modern Warfare 3‘s monthly DLC releases, there’s less enthusiasm building around these regular Call of Duty map pack releases than in years past. Granted, enthusiasm for the franchise overall has tapered off slightly, but that’s par for the course as competition increases.

Usually we’re flooded with promotional material for each DLC release – trailers, screenshots, press releases – and that doesn’t seem to be the case this year. Perhaps the Activision PR machine is preparing for the launch of Call of Duty: Ghosts, which hits store shelves this October.

Will you be picking up the Vengeance DLC next week? If you could use The Replacers for just one day, what would you do?

Call of Duty: Black Ops‘ Vengeance DLC is out July 2, 2013 for the Xbox 360. No dates have been announced for PC and Ps3.
