Lyoto Machida has been promised a light heavyweight title shot a few times, but it always falls through. When he beat Dan Henderson at UFC 157, Machida was told he was the No. 1 contender but the next shot is officially going to Alexander Gustafsson.
If "The Dragon" can dispose of Phil Davis, he's certain he'll get another crack at the belt.

"I'm very happy, not disappointed with them," said Machida to Sherdog. "It's important for me to keep fighting and not wait for somebody. Many times you wait and the fight never happens. With this next victory, I will be the next contender for sure."

Machida was the champion before eventually losing it. He challenged Jones for the belt, but went to sleep in the second round from a standing choke. He's currently on a two fight win streak.

Davis took a decision over Vinny Magalhaes to improve to 11-1 at UFC 159.

They meet at UFC 163 from Brazil's HSBC Arena. It's on August 3.
