Former UFC heavyweight champion Bas Rutten went under the knife in January to fix nerve issues stemming from weakness in his arms. The neck surgery required three discs to be fused together. Months later and Rutten knew something wasn't right as he would fatigue early, so he met with several other doctors to find the cause.
"Finally after eight months I had someone listening to me and he tells me is what they call brachial plexus," said Rutten to MMA Weekly. "Hopefully surgery will fix it. If not surgery, then rest, and that rest could literally mean seven years in some cases."

Soon Rutten will take another test that will hopefully pinpoint where the nerve stops but it might not be possible since brachial plexus is difficult to locate months later.

Rutten can be seen on Inside MMA and does play-by-play for several promotions. He recently worked the World Series of Fighting 3 card.
