Chromecast (http://redirect.viglink.com?key=11fe087258b6fc0532a5ccfc9 24805c0&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.engadget.com%2F2013%2F07%2F29%2 Fgoogle-chromecast-review%2F) may deliver on promises of sending wire-free video to TVs, but it's not hands-free -- or at least, it wasn't. Leon Nicholls has unveiled (http://redirect.viglink.com?key=11fe087258b6fc0532a5ccfc9 24805c0&u=https%3A%2F%2Fplus.google.com%2F1179160555216428 10655%2Fposts%2FWqpUQ442VDK) a homemade Kinect (http://redirect.viglink.com?key=11fe087258b6fc0532a5ccfc9 24805c0&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.engadget.com%2F2012%2F10%2F08%2 Fkinect-for-windows-sdk-update-brings-accelerometer-and-infrared%2F) app for the desktop that gives him gesture-based control of videos playing through Google's streaming stick. While there's just two commands at this point, Nicholls hopes to open-source the code in the near future; this isn't the end of the road. If you can't wait that long, though, there's a quick demonstration available after the break.
