Hometown Honor
Tijuana, Mexico holds a special place in Rey Mysterio’s heart; not only is he a native of the border city, but it was also the location of his first professional match. Prior to Friday’s live event in the city, the Mayor of Tijuana honored the SmackDown Superstar by inducting him into a special fraternity.
“They honored me as for being an outstanding athlete and citizen of Tijuana,” Mysterio told WWE.com, “and for being someone who became a role model for the city. It’s like the Hall of Fame of Tijuana, and my uncle (Rey Mysterio, Sr.) is also in it as well. (The Hall) is in the main government building in Tijuana, so many people will walk by and see it; Myself, my friends and family can go always go back and see me in there as well.”
Mysterio left a mask and signed photograph as his Hall of Fame exhibit, and really only had a few words to sum up the emotions he was feeling.
“Without a doubt…it’s very cool."
