Tenille Dashwood aka “Emma” is a 25-year-old Australian wrestler.

As it stands the WWE has two Australians in its system — Emma (Tenille Dashwood) already a regular on the Monday night Raw program, while another, Buddy Murphy (Matt Silva), is in its developmental system (NXT) hoping to make a name of his own.

According to WWE Hall of Famer Booker T (Booker Huffman), it’s important that the WWE caters for the Australian market with homegrown talent.

“We definitely need an Australian star,” Huffman told Foxsports.com.au.

“It’s just good for business … I’m definitely looking for the next superstar.

“The door is open for the young guys to break in.”

But how do you break in?

Booker T says the biggest challenge a wannabe superstar is faced with when trying to break into the business is being trained the right way.

“For the overseas wrestler such as the guys coming from Australia, I’d say it is getting trained in the American style of showmanship in the ring,” he said.

“It’s all Shakespeare. You have to go to the founders who did it well in order to know how to do it well.

“You have to have a great coach to show you the way. Someone who is going to give you half a chance of going out there and being successful, and that is the key to getting into the business the right way.”

Emma is a member of the full-time roster, while fellow Australian Murphy trains at the multi-million dollar training facility in Orlando, Florida.

According to Huffman, the WWE Performance Centre is the machine designed to churn out the next big thing in the wrestling game.

“It’s something I’ve been talking about for quite some time,” he said.

“You look at the UFC and they have so many schools all around the county, then they have their Ultimate Fighter show where they have instant talent coming out of that immediately. We need to vamp our campaign as far as getting these young people to come and join wrestling.

“It was up to WWE making it state of the art and showing what your life can be like if you are a professional wrestler. It’s a really great life but it’s (also) a lot of hard work at the same time.”

WWE talent scouts have a history of recruiting College football players and amateur wrestlers, but for those who don’t have a background in athletics, there are a number of reputable schools available.

Huffman, along with fellow Hall-of-Famer Dory Funk jnr and former superstar Lance Storm, all offer training programs which can kickstart a hopeful on their wrestling journey.

While the likes of John Cena and Triple H look like jacked body builders, Hoffman says the emergence of “average looking Joe” Daniel Bryan and the “Jake ‘the snake’ of the modern era” Bray Wyatt have opened the door for wrestlers all shapes and sizes to leave their mark.

“You never know what (the next star is) going to look like,” he said.

“That’s what the wrestling business has always been about — the guy who can go out there and be different.”
