When you pick a house to rob, it might be smart to make sure it's not the home of a guy who's trained in MMA and is a former WWE World Heavyweight champion.

That's what two burglars found out when they were in the middle of robbing a home in Phoenix, Arizona, only for it's owners, Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella to return.

The burglars dropped what they were trying to steal and ran but Bryan, despite the injuries that have kept him out of the ring, still caught and detained one of the suspects.

22 year old Cedar Sosa was arrested and charged with burglary. As it turned out, Sosa already had a felony warrant for his arrest on kidnapping and burglary charges.

The story is a big one in the local Phoenix area as several local newscasts are claiming they will have Bryan (who had just returned from San Diego, where he made an appearance for WWE at Comic-Con) on for interviews.

News report from KCBD website:

Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion takes down home burglar

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A home burglar quickly realized he broke into the wrong house when a former WWE World Heavyweight Champion took him down.

Phoenix police said former wrestler Bryan Danielson, who goes by Daniel Bryan, and his wife were pulling into their carport in the Arcadia area about 7 p.m. on July 24 when two suspects dropped their loot and ran out of the house.

Phoenix police said they broke the back door to get into the house.

Danielson caught one of the suspects, 22-year-old Cesar Sosa, and was able to detain him until police officers could take him into the custody.

Sosa was booked into the Maricopa County Jail, charged with burglary, and had a felony warrant for his arrest on kidnapping and burglary charges.

The second suspect has not been found.

TMZ.com is reporting the burglers that targeted Bryan's home were in the process of stealing items that included a bracelet that belonged to Bryan's recently deceased father.

The report also notes Bryan used a rear naked choke hold to bring under control one of the burglars for five minutes until police arrived.

*UPDATE*

I caught most of an interview that was streamed by MyFoxPhoenix in Phoenix. Bryan and Brie (along with their dog Josie) came across very well. Bryan said it was crazy to have done Comic Con with Hogan, Sting and Heyman and to get his autobiography deal set only to be told he'll need another surgery on his elbow and then come home early to catch the guys in the process of robbing them. As he and Brie really are minimalists he said the only thing of value they almost got away with was a watch from his father who passed away recently. He got a little emotional talking about it but kept positive and made light of the situation.

Brie said she had been home all day until leaving to pick Bryan up from the airport. Apparently during that small window of time is when the two burglars moved on their home. They actually have only been in the house for less than 2 weeks and had postponed putting in the alarm system. The two men ran when Bryan and Brie pulled up on their car. Bryan chased the one down, he said about 400 meters down the street. He took him down and put him in a rear naked choke to subdue him but not really harm him. Bryan said the guy was gasping and tired so it was easy. He said he yelled and cussed at the guy, something usually left to Brie. He did joke about how he figured people expected him to have used the Yes Lock and get the guy to tap. During this time Brie had gone back to their car and had to look for Bryan for about 10 minutes before finding him.

Obviously they were both a little freaked, not sleeping well last night as that was their personal space being invaded. They did say their neighbors were showing their support and have already offered to help watch their house while on the road, among other neighborhood watch initiatives already in place. One neighbor got a good look at the suspect who got away which could help in identifying them later.

Bryan came across very well. He hopes the guy he caught gets help and can turn his life around. He said he feels a little ashamed because the guy could've had a knife or gun and the situation could have gone worse. But his instinct was to attack and fight. Very humble yet very strong way to come across to the public. I thought it captured what Bryan and Brie are about as human beings and as people in real life. Also nice that they kept referring and acknowledging him as a former WWE World Heavyweight Champion and someone highly trained in fighting.

WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan is being credited with catching an alleged burglar outside his Phoenix, Ariz., home Thursday night.

Bryan arrived home with his wife, Brie Bella, to reportedly find two men running out of his house. According to Bryan, the alleged burglars had broken into the residence through the back door by using rocks and were in the process of trying to flee by crossing a fence outisde his home.

Bryan and Brie were on their way back from a whirlwind trip that included Bryan sitting on a San Diego Comic-Con panel, meeting iconic WCW legend Sting, announcing his new autobiography and receiving the latest diagnosis of his medical condition from WWE physician Dr. Chris Amann.

Bryan, who described his decision to chase the alleged burglars as a "fight or flight" response, said he ran down and apprehended one of the suspects. "There's an expression that says, 'Exhaustion makes cowards of us all,' " the three-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion told WWE.com.

The item that Bryan was most concerned about the alleged burglars taking was a watch box the Superstar received from his sister-in-law, Nikki, containing two wooden watches and a silver bracelet he received from his late father who recently passed away. The bracelet inscription reads, "To the man that you've become and the son you'll always be ..." Fortunately for the leader of the "Yes!" Movement, the suspects did not come away with the treasured gift.

Despite the emotional experience, the couple was grateful for the amazing support they received from their neighbors. "We're lucky because we had multiple neighbors calling the cops," the bearded Superstar proclaimed. "There are a lot of people watching out for each other in this community."
