The debut episode of Lucha Underground will replay today on The El Rey Network and will officially debut on the UniMas Spanish language channel at 4 PM. If you haven't had the chance to see the show and have the ability to watch it, I really think it's worth seeing. Prince Puma (Ricochet) vs. Johnny Mundo (formerly Morrison) is well worth going out of your way to see. It was a match that was originally going to be built to later in the season but due to visa issues for some Luchadores not being worked out by the time they needed to tape the first episode, the storylines were shifted so they ended up wrestling on the debut show. That worked out extremely well as it was a great match to let the promotion make it's first impression with.
Another aspect of the show that is extremely strong is that Lucha Underground is the first new promotion to debut in forever that feels like it's own self-sustaining world and universe, as opposed to a WWE or WCW retread out of the gate. A big part of that is that the Producers hired Starlight Runners Entertainment to lay out the bible for the show and it's Lucha history as well as certain characters, which were then given to Christopher DeJoseph to flesh out and write the weekly TV.

In a lot of ways, promoting the series as a "reality" show was wrong, as the production and feel comes off like more of an English language Telenovela. That actually sets the show apart from most wrestling series, as do some of the other production aspects.

Highlights of the first episode are online at this link.

Online now in the PWInsider Elite section is a new, exclusive interview with Johnny Mundo aka the artist formerly known as John Morrison in WWE discusses the first episode of Lucha Underground on The El Rey Network, why he chose to sign there when he chose to step away from national wrestling after his WWE run, Prince Puma, finding his passion for the business again, his Parkour background and finally getting to use it, whether he was frustrated WWE never grasped onto it, the cinematic nature of the Underground's production, Joey Mercury being back on TV, his hopes for the Underground series, getting to work with Luchadores, the locker room in Underground, his outside projects and much, much more! Dario Cueto, the heel promoter and owner on camera, is actually an actor from Spain who was brought in to play the character.

There is a lot of interest in using Alberto Del Rio and Rey Mysterio when they are free and clear.

The second episode will feature:

*Prince Puma & John Mundo vs. The Crenshaw Crew.

*Chavo Guerrero and Sexy Star vs. Lord of Havok and Ivelisse Velez.
