With “Wrestle Kingdom 9” and “New Year Dash” in the books, NJPW has announced the next defenses for each of their champions, as well as two NWA sanctioned championship matches to take place on the “NEW BEGINNING” shows. Both shows will air LIVE on NJPW World.
At “THE NEW BEGINNING in OSAKA” four of NJPW’s championships will be on the line. ReDRagon will defend the IWGP Jr. Tag Team Championships against the two teams who did not take the fall in the 4-way tag at Wrestle Kingdom: Time Splitters and Young Bucks. Ryusuke Taguchi will received his rematch against Bullet Club’s Kenny Omega who won the belt at Wrestle Kingdom just as he promised. Bullet Club will also be looking to regain championship gold as Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows receive their rematch against new IWGP Tag Team Champions “Meiyu Tag” Hirooki Goto and Katsuyori Shibata. Likewise, in the main event AJ Styles aims to reclaim the IWGP Heavyweight Championship that he lost to Hiroshi Tanahashi at “KING OF PRO-WRESTLING 2014” in October.
At “THE NEW BEGINNING in SENDAI” two of NJPW’s championships and two of NWA’s championships will be on the line. Jushin Liger will defend the NWA World Jr. Championship against Chase Owens, whom he defeated for the title at “POWER STRUGGLE”. The NWA World Heavyweight Championship will also be on the line as Rob Conway returns to NJPW to put his championship on the line against Hiroyoshi Tenzan. Tomohiro Ishii will be fighting to reclaim the NEVER Openweight Championship from Togi Makabe after his loss at Wrestle Kingdom. In the main event, Shinsuke Nakamura is set to defend the IWGP Intercontinental Championship against Yuji Nagata after Nagata challenged him at “New Year DASH!!”
NJPW will be running a “Road to NEW BEGINNING” tour from 01/30-02/08, but not card information has been released yet. The 01/30 and 02/01 shows are set to air LIVE on NJPW World.
In addition to these championship match announcements, NJPW has released the full cards for the upcoming annual “FANTASTICA MANIA” tour! On the first night, OKUMURA will celebrate his 20th anniversary as a pro wrestler. At the Shin-Kiba show a one-night single elimination tag team tournament has been booked featuring all CMLL talent with the exception of Tetsuya Naito. The Korkauen Hall double header is stacked with the first night featuring two championship matches, a memorial match dedicated to Black Cat and a special singles match between Ultimo Guerrero and Atlantis. Those of you who do not follow CMLL should know that these two had a Luchas de Apuestas back in September in which Ultimo Guerrero lost his mask. The second night features three special singles matches that look promising and a special eight man tag match featuring four of both NJPW and CMLL’s top talents. The second Korakuen Hall show is also the only card featuring Kota Ibushi. The Korakuen Hall shows will air LIVE on NJPW World.
