With Sean Spencer on the shelf for UFC 187, Mike Pyle now has a new opponent.

Pyle (26-10-1 MMA, 9-5 UFC) will face Colby Covington (7-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) at the event later this month with Spencer (12-4 MMA, 3-3 UFC) sidelined by injury, as originally reported by MMAjunkie. UFC officials announced the new matchup today.

UFC 187 takes place May 23 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena. The welterweight bout between Pyle and Covington will stream on UFC Fight Pass ahead of prelims on Fox Sports 1 and the main card on pay-per-view.

The unbeaten Covington has both of his UFC wins by submission. In his promotional debut, he stopped Anying Wang at UFC Fight Night 48 with punches, causing Wang to tap. He followed that up this past November with a third-round rear-naked choke win over Wagner Silva.

Pyle has dropped two of his past three fights. This past August at UFC Fight Night 49, he was stopped by Jordan Mein in 72 seconds. A year prior, he was knocked out by Matt Brown. But in between, he shut down T.J. Waldburger with a third-round TKO. He has just three losses since June 2010.

With the change, the latest UFC 187 card now includes:

MAIN CARD

Daniel Cormier vs. Anthony Johnson – for light heavyweight title
Champ Chris Weidman vs. Vitor Belfort – for middleweight title
Donald Cerrone vs. John Makdessi
Andrei Arlovski vs. Travis Browne
Joseph Benavidez vs. John Moraga
