Thurman has established herself as a bankable Hollywood actress
Hollywood star Uma Thurman has been awarded a top French honour for her work as an actress.
The Kill Bill star was made a knight in the Order of Arts and Letters, by Gilles Jacob, who is president of Cannes Film Festival.
He awarded the honour at a ceremony on behalf of France's Culture Ministry, telling Thurman she was "admired throughout the world".
Thurman said she was honoured to receive the medal.
Flattered and touched
Thurman's acting career began at the age of 16 on a New York stage.
Her roles in Dangerous Liaisons (1988), Pulp Fiction (1994) and Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill saga (2003, 2004) have secured her status as an A-list actress in Hollywood.
Jacobs said Thurman's career would "make her the favourite actress of an entire generation".
"I'm so flattered and touched by your comments," said Thurman, who has been in France promoting her new movie, Prime, co-starring Meryl Streep.
The Order of Arts and Letters was established to recognise artists and writers who have contributed significantly to the arts in France and throughout the world.

It is good to see that even though Uma Thurman is is now an A-list celebrity that she is still able to feel flattered when recieving awards and not appear completely self-centred as so many of Hollwoods stars do.
