It has been officially announced that Masakatsu Funaki [46] will be leaving W-1 after his contract expires in June. TAJIRI [44] as well will be working a limited schedule going forward as he will be seeking an opportunity abroad as an acupuncturists.

In regards to Funaki, it appears the two were unable to come to terms with a contract renewal. As it was mentioned that a “compromise of conditions” could not be met. Funaki has been close to Mutoh since his active return to pro-wrestling in 2009 back in All Japan Pro-Wrestling and was active in W-1 since day one.

This is not the end of Funaki though as he will continue competing after June as a completely freelance wrestler, which quite a number of wrestlers and veterans do as of late. It appears there is somethings that Funaki still looks to achieve before he hangs up the boots when that times comes. His final match as a W-1 affiliated wrestler will be on June 20 in Chiba.
