Following the news of the DESTRUCTION 2015 events the next IWGP Heavyweight belt defense has been set for “KING OF PRO-WRESTLING” on October 12th. As Kazuchika Okada defends in a rematch against the former champion AJ Styles.
Okada managed to reclaim the IWGP Heavyweight belt against Styles on July 5th in Osaka, but on the final day of the G1 Styles picked up the win over the champion in a tag match. This has now setup Styles to take on the champion on the big show in October as he aims to recapture the belt before WRESTLE KINGDOM on January 4th. This will be the fifth time that these two will meet as they are sitting even with 2 wins and 2 loses over each other.
New Japan is calling this match as the “likely” final defense of the IWGP belt this year as they will be putting the rest of the momentum into the big show with the start of the new year. Tanahashi vs. Styles was called the “best bout” of the G1 25 and could be seen as the headlining match of the big show if there is to be any possibility of a switch. That is also given if Tanahashi can keep a hold on his “challenge rights” in the next several months still yet to come.
