Akebono formally announced that he will be launching his own promotion known as "Oudou" (Royal Road).
Akebono, who went freelance from AJPW in November, stated that he will be working in cooperation with Mokoto Baba, wife of the late Giant Baba, and even with All Japan Pro-Wrestling. As well as any talent that he plans to bring in he mentioned Taiyo Kea as well as Bob Sapp. Akebono and Sapp are expected to face each other at RIZIN at the end of this month.
Akebono stated that this was his intention when he went freelance from All Japan. That he plans to start his own path and manage things as he sees fit. He has taken many of his choices in consideration with Mokoto Baba, who will be a major financial backer for helping him start this new project. Akebono stated that he does plan to continue working regularly in All Japan in the future, as he has for the last several years now. He does not expect "Oudou" to step over All Japan, but did allude to a possible Oudou versus AJPW feud to be possible. It could offer a strong stimulus for both sides.
Akebono also announced the "Akebono Fund". A charity work that he hopes to establish to help feed children in need in Hawaii as well as in Japan. If things go well he wishes to also extend aid to those effected by disasters as well.
