VAMPIRO'S RXLL LUCHA PROMOTION SPLITS APART FROM PRESIDENT FOLLOWING TV, FINANCIAL ISSUES
The Vampiro-led Revolution X Lucha Libre group has already splintered into two separate entities after a number of problems with President Pepe Villa just several weeks into the existence of the company, which was formed by Vampiro and Villa.
Pepe as president, was to bring in sponsors and provide financial backing for the company. Vampiro was to headline (he's a huge star in Mexico, much bigger than he ever became working for WCW in the United States), as well as write and produce television, bringing an American production team in to oversee the taping and editing of the weekly RXLL TV series that would air on Televisa in Guadalajara, Mexico.
There were immediate problems after the first taping, with production levels being well below what the American crew was expecting, to the point it was years behind American production. The crew was even provided videotape that had been previously used to tape the event. There were issues with finances as well. Some of the wrestlers waited hours (some until 5 AM after the taping) to get paid while the production crew only received a portion of their money.
The financial issues continued at the second taping with outside American talent, including Sean Waltman and Ron Killings, being removed. With lower overhead, the wrestlers were paid, but the production crew wasn't. They were promised payment would be sent to them in the United States and went about editing and producing the RXLL TV series to send to Televisa.
Several weeks later, when the production crew still had not received their owed money, they stopped sending the RXLL TV tapes to Televisa for airing. While it had already been conceded from Vampiro's side that they needed to break off from Villa, nothing was going to be done until he returned from a Japanese tour. Villa re-edited existing footage to run on Televisa, but Vampiro intervened and prevented it from airing.
Villa ran a third taping under the RXLL name and logo, which was created by Vampiro for his use, using mostly local talents, Rey Misterio Sr. and some American independent wrestlers from California. After being warned about legal issues over using the name, Villa announced his company was now MXLL (More Xtreme Lucha Libre).
Vampiro intends to continue with RXLL and is said to already have Televisa's backing to air his television product. There's no set date for future events yet with the current plan being they would likely start up sometime in November. No word on who the new financial backer would be.
There was talk yesterday that due to his own financial issues, Villa's MXLL TV didn't even return to its Guadalajara timeslot after an issue regarding a previous payment. I haven't 100% confirmed that the show did not air.
