UFC welterweight Mickey Gall defeated CM Punk via first round submission at Saturday night’s UFC 203. Punk’s 2-year journey to the Octagon culminated in tapping out to rear-naked choke just minutes into the fight. It was a dominant performance for the 24-year old Gall, a jiu-jitsu brown belt who possessed a skill set lightyears ahead of Punk’s.

In the post-fight interview, CM Punk said he lives by the mantra, “go big or go home.” He likes to take challenges and is proud he made it to the UFC. He appreciates everybody’s support, put Gall over as a great fighter and vowed to fight again. Punk said this was the most fun he’s ever had and called it the second best night of his life after his wedding to AJ Lee. He continued, saying life is all about getting back up after you’ve been knocked down. He encouraged kids to believe in themselves. You won’t always get the outcome you’re looking for, but it’s important to follow your dreams.

Despite the losing effort, Punk set out to fight for UFC, dedicated himself to that goal, sacrificed and achieved it.
