WWE was honored with the “ICON Award” before last night’s WWE Survivor Series pay-per-view and inducted into the Air Canada Centre’s ICONS program. Below is a tweet from Stephanie McMahon, who accepted the award, and the official announcement:

WWE® TO BE INDUCTED INTO AIR CANADA CENTRE ICONS

In celebration of their long-standing history together, MLSE LIVE will name WWE® the newest inductee into its Air Canada Centre ICONS program Sunday evening. The official presentation will take place prior to the start of WWE’s Survivor Series® at Air Canada Centre with Stephanie McMahon, WWE®’s Chief Brand Officer and Wayne Zronik, MLSE’s Senior Vice-President of Music and Live Entertainment.

“The impact WWE® has had at Air Canada Centre and in Toronto is remarkable,” said Zronik. “Year after year, they continue to deliver high quality entertainment and we want to pay tribute to the organization, its WWE Superstars® and their incredible fans. Inducting them into Air Canada Centre ICONS is our way of saying thank you.”

This weekend, Air Canada Centre will host three consecutive days of WWE® programming beginning with NXT TakeOver® on Saturday, payper-view event Survivor Series® on Sunday and RAW® on Monday. Following this weekend’s events, Air Canada Centre will have hosted 26 WWE® events over a 15-year period including, 11 RAWs®, six SmackDowns® and one SummerSlam®.

MLSE LIVE introduced Air Canada Centre ICONS in 2015 to commemorate Air Canada Centre’s rich entertainment history. The program, Air Canada Centre ICONS, honours performers who have helped establish the venue as a global entertainment destination through artist recognition. To publicly recognize these iconic artists and to share this celebration with fans, a permanent Air Canada Centre ICONS fixture has been installed in the Galleria showcasing and honouring the names of those inducted. Evaluated by an entertainment industry consortium, iconic performers are inducted based on their outstanding achievement and ongoing contribution to Air Canada Centre and Toronto as a global leader in live entertainment. This consortium is made up of individuals from MLSE LIVE, Live Nation Canada, Bell Media, CARAS, MusiCounts and Rogers Radio.

WWE® joins current inductees Bon Jovi (most sold-out shows), Russell Peters (best-selling comedian), The Tragically Hip (inaugural concert at Air Canada Centre concert and 11 sold-out shows), U2 (most sold-out multi-show runs) and Madonna (top-performing female artist).
