It appears Mauro Ranallo’s days as a WWE announcer are over. According to a report at CBS Sports, Ranallo is not expected to appear on camera for the remainder of his WWE contract, which runs through August 12th, 2017.

Mauro Ranallo has missed the past few weeks of Smackdown and was also absent for Wrestlemania 33. Tom Phillips has served as Ranallo’s replacement during his absence. The first episode of Smackdown Ranallo missed was blamed on travel issues related to a snowstorm. The following week, WWE said he was sick.

Ranallo has been very open about his continuing battle with depression and bipolar disorder. It has been speculated that has been the reason from his absence on Smackdown and Wrestlemania. Mauro has discussed depression and has also made the effort to encourage those that have the same illness to keep fighting.

In the weeks following his departure from WWE television, rumors began circulating that backstage bullying by fellow announcer John Bradshaw Layfield contributed to Ranallo’s latest episode. Former WWE ring announcer Justin Roberts’ new book details JBL’s backstage hazing, which JBL has denied.

Ranallo is a tremendous talent and his unique brand of commentary will be missed from WWE television. He announced earlier this week that he’s returning to the announcer’s booth later this month, but not for WWE. He’ll be calling the action for Showtime Boxing later this month from the Barclays Center (4/22).

The support I have received on social media has helped more than I can express. Thanks ! https://t.co/dwvE8T65G3
