One of the coolest pieces of merchandise WWE sells are the replica championship belts. Fans who want to customize their belts even further have the option of purchasing “custom side plates” for their favorite Superstars.

In what some are describing as poor timing, WWE has recently started selling custom championship side plates for Asuka. Unfortunately, the side plates didn’t go on sale until after she lost the title to Charlotte Flair last week on SmackDown Live.

WWE has finally released Asuka championship replica side plates onto their store, just days after she lost the SmackDown Women's title to Charlotte Flair on #SDLive

Talk about rubbing salt into the wound! She won the title back at TLC. WWE has had enough time to release them!

And as you would expect, the timing for this decision didn’t sit well with the already angry fans and a lot of them took on their Twitter to criticize the company for this move:

OH THIS IS SO WWE.

asuka lost the title 3 days ago

and they put these out.

So I wish somebody in the know can answer this question. WWE Shop just released Asuka side plates. They have done this for everybody who becomes a first time main champion. Except for Jinder and Sheamus. Why don’t either of these men have their side plates for sale?

So let me get this straight. You gave Charlotte her 8th reign and was overshadowed by outrage by the fans. You buried the entire Sdl division. You sold Asuka plates after she lost and put her into a battle royal? You did this so maybe the 4HW will have a “curtain call” moment

//To add more insult to injury they released Asuka's side plates…………..after she lost the title

As we noted before, the decision to take the belt off Asuka and put it on Charlotte Flair 2 weeks before WrestleMania was a last minute call and WWE hadn’t planned it in advance.

It’s possible these custom plates were in production long before WWE made the call and they had no choice but to try and sell the plates that they have already made.

However, the timing still strikes odd considering the fact that Asuka was champion for three months before losing the title and the company could have started promoting these plates anytime then.

There is no news yet on what WWE is planning for Asuka now that she no longer holds the title and it will be interesting to see if she gets a rematch for her Championship after WrestleMania.
