DJZ is now under contract with WWE. The news was officially confirmed by the company on Tuesday morning.
This was expected as back in March, Pwinsider.com was the first to report WWE made the former X-Division champion an offer in February and he was expected to be headed to NXT shortly.
Real name Michael Paris, DJZ has wrestled under the names Zema Ion as well on the independent scene.
In the announcement statement issued by WWE, they hyped “Paris’ signing comes on the heels of several other high-profile acquisitions. In January, the WWE Performance Center welcomed a new class of 12 athletes, while international wrestlers Kushida, Shane Strickland and Humberto Garza all reported for training last month.”
During his time with Impact Wrestling which was from 2011-2018, he held the X-Division Title twice and Tag Team Titles once.
Aside from Impact, he has worked in Mexico, Japan and the United Kingdom where he captured dozens of championships such as the International Wrestling Cartel’s Super Indy Championship, a title formerly held by the likes of AJ Styles, Johnny Gargano, Adam Cole and Corey Graves.
As of this writing, there’s no word yet when he’ll make his in-ring debut under the NXT banner.
