Last night on Smackdown, Paige announced the team of Asuka and Kairi Sane will now be known as the Kabuki Warriors. Both Paige and Asuka took to their social media accounts to comment on the team name.

Paige revealed Asuka and Kairi originally chose the team name “Kabuki Girls.”

You know it was the girls who chose their name right? Well technically they wanted “kabuki girls” but it was changed to kabuki warriors. Chill

Asuka took to her Twitter account to explain why she feels Kabuki is fitting for her team with Kairi Sane.

Sengoku or Edo-period eccentric who attracted public attention with their eye-catching clothes, peculiar hairstyle, and weird behavior

The Kabuki Warriors defeated the Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose team of Fire and Desire last night on Smackdown.

With the win over Rose and Deville, Asuka and Kairi Sane are likely in the running to receive the next title shot against the Iiconics. Billie Kay and Peyton Royce won the titles from the Boss N Hug Connection at WrestleMania. The Kabuki Warriors and Iiconics have been wrestling each other on WWE live events as of late as well.

In terms of other women’s tag teams currently competing, Beth Phoenix and Natalya were in the mix of things on RAW recently. They have been competing together on live events as well, though it’s not clear if Phoenix will be around long-term as an in-ring talent. She is now doing commentary for NXT as well.

The Riott Squad have been broken up but Ruby Riott and Logan are teaming up on house shows still. In NXT, Aliyah & Vanessa Borne have been teaming together and so have Taynari Conti & Xia Li.
