Brian Cage addressed his status as Impact World Champion this week on Impact’s weekly show on Twitch and Pursuit. Cage has been dealing with injuries since winning the title at Rebellion this spring. He stated on Impact this week that his title defence against Michael Elgin then pushed his recovery time back further. Cage would say he will be cleared to compete in time for Bound for Glory, however, where he will face Sami Callihan for the title.
After announcing he would face Callihan at the PPV, Cage then proposed to Melissa Santos.

Callihan qualified for the title match after he and Tessa Blanchard won a one-night tag title tournament and then Callihan defeated Tessa at Unbreakable with a title shot on the line.
Since the end of the Dixie Carter-era of Impact Wrestling, 5 wrestlers have held the Impact World Championship. Eli Drake entered the new Don Callis-led era of Impact as the champion but quickly lost the title to Austin Aries. In the months that followed, Aries would drop the title to Pentagon Jr. but regain it shortly after.
Aries then dropped the title to Johnny Impact at Bound For Glory last year who then dropped it to Cage at Rebellion this April.
