Fans have been wondering what’s next for Cain Velasquez now that he’s no longer under contract with the WWE.

The former UFC Heavyweight Champion was released by the company as part of their talent and staff cuts made last month. Back in February, it was reported that Velasquez successfully had his knee scoped and is feeling completely healthy.

There had been mixed reports about him being spotted at WWE’s training facility, WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, to get more reps in the ring while awaiting his next match.

American Kickboxing Academy head coach Javier Mendez, who used to train Cain, made an appearance on Wednesday’s episode of the Luke Thomas Show on SiriusXM.

This is where he stated that the former UFC star wouldn’t be making a return to the UFC. Instead, “he’s wrestling,” Mendez, Velasquez’s longtime coach, said.

Prior to signing with WWE, he had been working for AAA and reportedly had interest from other wrestling promotions looking to sign him.

Velasquez lost his debut match under the WWE banner when he faced WWE Champion Brock Lesnar at Crown Jewel.
