The rocky road continues for WWE‘s video game franchise. The game was initially scheduled to be released this fall, but has been delayed to early/mid 2022.

Back in August, reports surfaced regarding tensions between WWE and game developer 2K. WWE has released dozens of wrestlers this year, which led many fans to wonder what this would mean for the WWE 2K22 roster. The drastic talent cuts have in fact caused problems with the game’s development, according to a report at Sports Gamer Online.

Plans for at least one Downloadable Content pack had to be scrapped. The DLC pack was going to revolve around former NXT star Bronson Reed.

Other wrestlers that had been expected to be DLC for the game included Mercedes Martinez, Tyler Rust, and Leon Ruff. Nothing has been confirmed as to how WWE 2K22 will handle DLC releases for the game. There is talk of scrapping them altogether, however.

Back in August, a source to SGO commented that the releases are likely to cause a very outdated roster. “This is shaping up to be the most outdated roster a game has seen,” the source revealed.

It was also noted that WWE was against the idea of delaying the release of the game. The studio felt they needed to go that route, however.

“Most of those within WWE wanted the game to release in its normal Survivor Series window. Those from 2K Sports and Visual Concepts, on the other hand, pushed hard for a delay of the launch,” wrote Michael Straw from Sports Gamer Online.
