The WWE NXT Tag Team division will be shrinking if one duo is granted their requested releases from the company.

According to Fightful Select, Rip Fowler and Jagger Reid have requested their releases.

There is no word yet on why the duo has asked to be released by WWE, and joined the promotion in 2018 as part of NXT UK.

Originally named James Drake and Zack Gibson, the pair became the first NXT UK Tag Team Champions in January 2019 at NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool.

The team, known as the Grizzled Young Veterans, held the titles for eight months before losing the gold to Flash Morgan Webster and Mark Andrews.

The following January, the team entered the 2020 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic but was bested by The Broserweights (Matt Riddle & Pete Dunne) in the finals.

In February 2020, the Grizzled Young Veterans were called to NXT but their arrival on the brand was delayed due to travel restrictions stemming from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Last year, Drake and Gibson had their names changed, as part of WWE's policy at the time, removing any real names from their programming.

Reid and Fowler most recently saw action alongside their Schism allies Joe Gacy and Ava Raine, in a loss to Chase U and Tyler Bate.

Had Schism won at NXT Stand & Deliver, they would have taken control of Andre Chase's faction of students.

It is has not been confirmed whether WWE has granted their request.
